OAS Clawback Calculator
See how much of your OAS a large RRSP could cost you.

Your income stays under the OAS clawback threshold.
At 72 your income would be about $0, which is $0 below the $0 threshold.
The clawback starts once your RRIF at 72 is worth more than about $0.

How It Works
The calculator grows your RRSP to age 72 at a constant real (after-inflation) return, applies the RRIF minimum withdrawal factor, and adds the other income you enter and a full OAS pension. Income above the $95,323 individual threshold is charged the recovery tax at the statutory 15% rate, capped at the OAS you receive.
It repeats the calculation for each year from 72 to 90, so you can see how long the recovery tax would apply. All amounts are in today’s dollars.
The 2026 threshold is $95,323. The tool also finds the RRIF balance at 72 above which the recovery tax would start, given the other income you enter.
Income before age 72 is not modeled, and the RRSP is assumed untouched until then.
What It Leaves Out
- Pension-income splitting, spouse OAS, and GIS are not modeled.
- OAS is assumed at the full-residence amount, held level in real dollars.
- Constant returns ignore sequence risk and changing RRIF factors after 72.

FAQ
For 2026 this tool uses $95,323 as the starting threshold, with a 15% rate on net world income above it, capped at the OAS amount you receive.
Yes. Starting at age 65, eligible RRIF withdrawals can be split up to 50% with a spouse on your tax return, which can keep both spouses below the individual clawback threshold. This calculator models an individual; the full planner supports household splitting.
It can. Drawing the RRSP down before age 72 leaves a smaller RRIF and lower forced income later. But the withdrawals are taxed in the years you make them, so whether it saves money overall depends on your tax rates in each year. That needs a year-by-year plan, not a single estimate.
