I started nomorework as a retirement planning spreadsheet for myself.
I wanted to understand when I could realistically stop working, how much I would need, and how different assumptions could change the outcome.
The spreadsheet kept growing. Friends became interested in it and started asking for help with their own plans, so I kept adding to it.
At the same time, I was trying other retirement planning tools. Some were useful, but I often found myself going back to my spreadsheet because I couldn't quite get what I wanted from them. Some were difficult to use, some didn't fit Canadian planning very well, and some cost more than I wanted to pay for the way I used them.
I've spent my career in software engineering and information security, so eventually I started wondering whether I should just build the tool I was looking for.
That became nomorework.
I want nomorework to be useful to people planning their own retirement without being unnecessarily difficult or expensive.
The original spreadsheet was built because I wanted clearer answers for myself. That part hasn't changed.
